A HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Thank you for waiting patiently to those whom I have already told that I was going to write about Manman. Yes, I've finally got
the special article about Emmanuel "Manman" van Ruitenbeek (Van Vliet EBH Elshof) who came from the Netherlands as one of the top competitors in Japan's biggest bicycle stage race,
Tour de Hokkaido 2008, uploaded (as The Perspectives Special in the 16th issue of
Tokachi Style web magazine).
Although the championship of the entire race was won by a Japanese racer, Takashi Miyazawa (Meitan Hompo-GDR), Manman actually held on to the Green Jersey (only worn by the "present" champion) from the 1st stage to the 3rd one which toured around in Eastern Hokkaido. So when the competitors left Obihiro for the 4th stage, he was the leader.
There might have been some articles about the race itself in general in newspapers and magazines, but this may be among the few which feature one particular racer. So, from his "perspective," you can find quite a lot not only about how he has enjoyed bicycling in his life, but also about our culture, values and environment.
I would like to thank the race organizers, the team management and of course Manman for giving me this great opportunity.

「マンマン」のインタビュー記事を発行しますよと声をかけたみなさん、大変長らくお待たせしました。日本最大の自転車レース、
ツール・ド・北海道2008に参加したトップレーサーの1人のオランダ人レーサー、エマニュエル・マンマン（ニックネーム）・ヴァン・ロイテンビークのスペシャル記事が、とうとう
アップされましたよ。（

レースの総合優勝は宮澤崇史さん（梅丹本舗・GDR）でしたが、道東地方で争われた第1から第3ステージではマンマンがグリーンジャージ（それまででトップの走者が着用）を保持していたため、レース集団が帯広を出発（第4ステージ）した時点ではチャンピオンでした。
レース全体の記事は新聞や雑誌などでも見かけますが、一人のレーサーにスポットを当てたのは少ないかも。自転車ライフについてだけではなく（私たちの）文化や価値観、環境について、彼の目から見ての言葉が聞けます。
レース関係者にチームマネジメントのみなさん、そしてもちろんマンマン、ご協力改めてありがとうございます。
